How does Housing Market Insights choose its sources?
It keeps a register of the organisations that publish housing figures in each country, looks for new ones every night, and approves or rejects each one automatically from a trust score.
For each country Insights keeps a register of the organisations that publish housing figures: statistics offices, central banks, land registries, government ministries and major property portals. International bodies that publish figures for many countries at once are in the register too.
Every night it searches for new sources, including searches in each country’s own languages. A new source starts as a candidate, and nothing it publishes is shown at this stage.
Each candidate then gets a trust score, and the score decides automatically whether the source is approved, rejected or put on probation. How that works is explained in the answer about how new sources are approved.
A source’s figures are shown only if its terms of use allow them to be reused with attribution. Sources whose terms do not allow this are used only to check other sources’ figures.
