What are smart segments?
A segment is a saved description of the people you want to write to, for example by budget, area, type of property, last contact or lead score. It is part of Pro.
Open Marketing and then Segments. Name the segment and add conditions: each condition narrows the group, and an optional second list adds alternatives, such as two different areas.
- The area they are looking in
- Budget range, in one currency (amounts in different currencies are never compared)
- Type of property, and buying or renting
- Bedrooms wanted
- Time since the last contact
- Lead score, which needs lead scoring
- Tags, and where the contact came from
- Whether they have an open lead, and the state of their deals
Count the people to see how many match and how many can be emailed. The count also says why the others cannot be: no usable address, unsubscribed from your emails, on the suppression list after a bounce or complaint, sharing an address with another contact, or in a market where the law requires a recorded opt-in first. A person your account already emailed today is not dropped; they receive the campaign tomorrow.
Send a campaign to a segment from the same screen. For each send you confirm that the people asked you to write to them or have a relationship with you that allows it. A segment is read when you send, so it never holds a list of addresses, and nobody receives more than one marketing email a day from your account. Archiving a segment is for managers and administrators, and it keeps the history of the campaigns sent to it.
